Information on Programs Offered:Concorde's Advanced Respiratory Therapy Program is designed for those of you that have completed the Entry Level Program or have passed the NBRC Entry Level Exam. This program opens more doors within your profession. Some hospitals require the advanced credentials in order to work with neonates or in intensive care settings. By increasing knowledge in the field, you increase your chances of acquiring the better jobs. You will assist physicians in the diagnosis and management of cardio-pulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities, and use sophisticated equipment to measure lung function and monitor heart functions. You might treat newborns, trauma victims, drowning victims, and patients suffering from asthma, bronchitis, coronary heart disease, emphysema, and pneumonia. As a Dental Assistant, you will be prepared to work chairside with the dentist; as well as in their front office. At Concorde you will receive "multi-tasked" training, which means you will be trained in both clinical and administrative capabilities. Clinical responsibilities include sterilizing and preparing instrument trays, exposing and processing x-rays, conducting oral inspections, preparing patients for treatment, and taking vital signs. Administrative responsibilities include patient charting, appointment setting, completing insurance forms, accounts payable and fee collections. As a Massage Therapist, you will have knowledge of basic science and the anatomy / physiology of the human body, as well as massage techniques and manipulations designed to enhance the physical health of patients. You will also have an advanced knowledge of all body systems with particular emphasis upon the skeletal and muscular systems of the body. This knowledge enables you to assess the needs of patients, develop individualized care plans, and conduct therapeutic massage to treat a patient's illness. In addition, as a Massage Therapist, you will have advanced knowledge of medical terminology, hygiene, safety, and sanitation. To successfully practice, you will be provided with thorough knowledge of professional / business ethics and the legal issues related to the practice of Massage Therapy. As a Medical Administrative Assistant, you are an integral member of the health care team. Your organizational skills and clear understanding of medical and insurance coding terminology keeps your workplace running efficiently. You will be trained in basic CPR, but will mainly function in an administrative environment performing duties such as transcription, billing, and word processing. You will also use medical computer applications to manage patient records.As a Medical Assistant, you will be an integral part of the health care delivery team. In this position, you are considered a "multi-tasked" provider. This means you will be trained and qualified in both clinical and administrative capacities. Medical Assistants work closely with doctors in clinics and physician's offices. You will be entrusted with a variety of critical responsibilities. Administrative skills and responsibilities include scheduling and receiving patients, preparing and maintaining medical records, performing basic front office skills, handling telephone calls and written correspondence, serving as a liaison between physicians and other individuals, and managing practice finances. Clinical responsibilities include taking patient histories and vital signs, performing first aid and CPR, preparing patients for procedures, assisting the physician with examinations and treatments, infection control, collecting and processing specimens, performing selected diagnostic tests, and preparing and administering medications as directed by the physician. As a Respiratory Therapist, you deal with one of the critical life-sustaining functions of the human body - breathing. You will deal with life and death issues on a daily basis. You will conduct diagnostic testing procedures and administer treatments to improve patients' breathing, as well as implement and monitor life support equipment. You will assist physicians in the diagnosis and management of cardio-pulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities, and use sophisticated equipment to measure lung function and monitor heart functions. As an entry-level Surgical Technologist, you perform essential tasks before, during and after operations. You work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other key surgical personnel in hospital operating rooms and outpatient surgery centers. Surgical Technologists play a critical role in surgical patient care. There are three major roles for entry-level surgical technologists - scrub, circulating assistant and second assisting. Scrub, circulating assistant and second assisting surgical technologists have primary responsibilities in maintaining the sterile field, being constantly vigilant that all members of the team adhere to proper technique. The scrub surgical technologist in the scrub role handles instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. They maintain a sterile environment and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. The surgical technologist in the circulating assistant role obtains additional instruments, supplies, and equipment while the surgical procedure is in progress. Monitors operating room conditions and assesses the needs of the surgical team in order to provide safe patient care. The surgical technologist in the second assisting role assists the surgeon and / or surgeon's first assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out technical tasks other than cutting, clamping, or suturing of tissue. The second assisting role is distinct from surgeon's first assistant and may be performed at the same time as the scrub role. Upon completion of the program and passing the licensing examination, the LVN can enter the workforce as a competent, skilled nurse. Vocational nurses as they are called in Texas and California provide bedside nursing care at the direction of physicians and/or registered nurses. The practice of vocational nursing is based on concepts from the physical, biological, and behavioral sciences. Each state has its own nurse practice act, so the scope of practice varies from state to state. As a licensed professional, the LVN uses the nursing process for patient assessment, to contribute to the nursing diagnosis made by the RN and for planning, implementation, and evaluation in providing care. LVNs are integral to nursing. They provide individualized care in a variety of healthcare Concorde - Vocational Nurse settings such as acute care, long-term care, home health care, and other community healthcare agencies. Vocational nurse students benefit from extensive hands-on learning in one-year programs. Much of their preparation for nursing focuses on supervised clinical experiences with real clients in real health care facilities. This clinical component of education is one of the major strengths of the vocational nurse program.
