    Dental Assistants have become indispensable to the dental care field. Dentists have become more reliant on Dental Assistants to perform a wide range of patient procedures, and their responsibilities continue to expand as the need for their services grows.

    The Dental Assisting program trains students in clinical, radiographic, and administrative procedures of the dental field. Dental Assisting graduates are qualified for entry-level positions as Dental Assistants in dental offices, dental supply manufacturers, hospital dental departments, and insurance companies or filling positions as dental receptionists, dental insurance clerks, dental supply salespeople, and administrative assistants. The Dental Assisting program is divided into learning units called modules.

    The modules include Administrative Procedures, Dental Radiography, Dental Sciences, Operative Dentistry, Laboratory Procedures, Dental Health, and Dental Specialties. Upon successful completion of the modules, students participate in a 160-clock-hour externship which provides students the opportunity to work with patients and apply the principles and practices learned. Dental Assisting graduates are awarded a diploma, a Radiation Safety Certificate, and verification of coronal polish completion.

     

    The Electrician program will provide you with the necessary technical, scientific, communication, and interpersonal skills for successful employment. You will be prepared for residential, industrial, and commercial tasks in this vital field.

    The program provides you with the knowledge and ability to install, alter, repair and maintain all types of electrical systems. The training gives you the flexibility to pursue different areas of employment as entry-level electricians.

    Electrician Career Opportunities

    You will be able to gain employment in industrial maintenance and automation, as well as new construction electrical work. Electrician positions involved in the service, maintenance and upgrading sectors are projected to experience continued growth.

     

    The Massage Therapy program is an entry-level program in the area of soft tissue dysfunction/massage therapy. Students will gain a solid foundation in anatomy and physiology and various other medical courses. The students will demonstrate competency and skill in massage techniques, documentation, and business areas through didactic and hands-on classes such as Swedish/Deep Tissue Massage, Neuromuscular Therapy, Orthopedic Assessment, Movement Anatomy, and Pathology.

    Clinical skills are taught by instructing students how to properly assess and document their massage sessions, as well as gain knowledge to communicate effectively with insurance professionals through medical terminology, pharmacology, and documentation skills classes.

    Students will study medical law and ethics, providing an understanding of moral behavior, acceptable standards of conduct, and professional relations. Adjunctive therapies, and how to integrate them into massage therapy, are also introduced. Business aspects of massage therapy are offered to help graduates develop skills to create their own business as Massage Therapists.

     

    The health care field offers a variety of interesting and challenging career opportunities to graduates of the Medical Administrative Assistant program. In this program, students receive training that emphasizes the administrative and business aspects of managing a medical or dental office.

    With strong administrative skills, graduates can become an integral part of a health care facility. Entry-level positions as receptionists, insurance processors, medical records clerks, and medical transcribers are found in medical and dental offices, hospitals, clinics, home health agencies, and insurance companies.

Consider the role of Medical Assistant, which in recent years has become an integral part of the health care arena. Medical Assistants are trained in both administrative and clinical procedures, and are capable of filling a variety of rewarding positions.

    You will be prepared to maintain the highest quality of patient care; take vital signs, run laboratory and diagnostic tests, all while utilizing your organization, communication and management skills. Gain employment in a hospital, clinic, doctor´s office, nursing home, medical supply business, home health care agency, insurance company or pharmaceutical company.

     

    In recent years, the Medical Assisting profession has become indispensable to the health care field. Not only have physicians become more reliant on medical assistants, but their services are also being requested by hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes, as well as medical supply businesses, home health agencies, insurance companies, and pharmaceutical companies.

    The objective of the Medical Assisting program is to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to qualify for entry-level positions as medical assistants. Since medical assistants are trained in both administrative and clinical procedures, they are capable of filling a variety of entry-level positions including clinical or administrative assistant, medical receptionist, and medical insurance biller. This training program is divided into learning units called modules.

    Graduates of the Medical Assisting program are eligible to apply to take the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) examination sponsored by the American Association of Medical Assistants.

     

    Medical billing and its related occupations are among the fastest- growing opportunities in the health care industry. Give yourself an advantage as more and more insurance companies, medical offices and clinics look to hire well-schooled and experienced professionals.

    You will learn the basic concepts and procedures to perform the tasks involved in health insurance as well as insurance claim forms. You will also gain knowledge of basic coding definitions and how to apply those codes to medical documentation.

    This program offers simulated practice where you manually and electronically prepare insurance claims. You will practice interviewing and documenting skills to obtain the necessary patient information for successfully completing and managing claims.

    To succeed in this field, you will need to possess a combination of skills. A thorough knowledge of medical terminology, preparing and processing of insurance claims, set up and maintenance of patient records, and proper code selection and application are all essential tools for this profession. Strong computer and keyboarding skills are also vital to the effectiveness of these jobs.

    The Medical Insurance Billing/Coding program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as Medical Insurance Billers in today's health care offices, clinics, and facilities. Students learn diagnostic and procedural terminology as it relates to the accurate completion of medical insurance claims. Utilizing a format of medical specialties, relevant terms will be introduced and studied.

    The combination of these skills will prepare students for the ever-changing field of insurance billing. Students learn not only coding procedures, but also the proper management and execution of various medical insurance plans and programs.

    In simulated practice, students will prepare insurance claim forms both manually and by computer.

     

    Do you want to take your education to the next level? The Medical Office Management program provides a well-rounded curriculum about the management of health care organizations. You will gain advanced skills that enable you to assume leadership roles in a variety of health care settings.

    The program uses the skills acquired in our diploma and certificate programs as a foundation and provides additional training and skills at a more in-depth level. You can choose your area of focus and tailor the program to meet your employment needs.

    Successful achievement of the program requires completion of the required general education, core, and major courses.

    The Paralegal program will give you the training you need, providing a complete overview of practical litigation skills and tasks.

    You will gain the necessary tools to provide vital assistance to lawyers, clients and courts. Legal Assistants (paralegals) may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law.

    The Paralegal program prepares you to perform duties such as:
    • Researching legal issues
    • Drafting legal documents
    • Preparing pleadings
    • Summarizing documents
    • Organizing trial notebooks
    • Interviewing clients

    You'll learn fundamental knowledge about the formation of contracts, breach of contracts, and remedies for the breach of contracts. Become familiar with the terminology, policies and procedures applied to: estate planning, wills, trusts, estate taxes, estate sales, and joint tenancy.

    Family and criminal law are other principal subjects covered in this program. Family law specializes in: divorce, separation, custody, adoption, guardianship, and community property. Criminal law covers: common law, statutory crimes and punishment, crime classification, principles of liability, and basic criminal procedure concepts.

     

    Pharmacy Technicians are now performing many of the traditional pharmacy functions. Today`s Pharmacy Technician has assumed a position that supports and enhances the progressive direction taken by pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician has also become the key person in assuring the smooth uninterrupted functioning of traditional pharmacy services.

    Graduates from this program will become active participants in this growing field by exhibiting competence through knowledge and skills learned through the college. The Pharmacy Technician program prepares the student with both administrative and clinical skills for a position in retail, hospital, clinic and home IV facilities.

    The program provides the student with the theory and hands-on applications required to demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles and practices of pharmacy technology; recognize, spell, define, and use appropriate medical terminology, words, and abbreviations; use appropriate pharmacy skills; discuss and demonstrate how to work with pharmaceutical dosage forms; and show competency in performing pharmaceutical calculations.

     

    Career opportunities for the surgical technologist are projected to increase as the number of surgical procedures for a growing and aging population escalates. Learn the skills to assist with surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. Become a valuable member of an operating room team by performing tasks vital to a successful surgery.

    You will be responsible for essential duties before, during and after surgical procedures. Tasks include the preparation of operating room and patients, organization and maintenance of instruments and equipment, cleaning of operating room, and replenishment of supplies.

    The Surgical Technologist program provides training in the areas of:

    • Proper aseptic techniques for preventing and controlling infection
    • Recognition of basic instrument sets (major, minor, and plastic)
    • Ability to position patients with confidence and ease
    • Knowledge of the general makeup of the mayo tray and back table
    • Ability to function effectively as a member of a surgical team

    The program combines classroom instruction with supervised clinical experience. Additional training includes: anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, professional ethics, medical terminology, and CPR certification. Prior to graduation, students will also get experience in an operating room, working under the supervision of a nurse or operating room technician.

    There are an abundance of employment opportunities in hospital operating or delivery rooms, clinics, surgical centers, and physician or dentist offices that include outpatient surgery.

    Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible to take the national certification exam.

     

    The objective of the Vocational Nursing program is to provide the student with the appropriate didactic theory and hands-on skills required and necessary, to prepare them for entry-level positions as licensed practical nurses in today's health care centers clinics, and facilities.

    The combination of introduced skills taught in this program will prepare students for the ever-changing field of nursing and health care. Students study fundamental principles and practices of nursing, anatomy and physiology, infection control, asepsis and patient care skills, pharmacology, nursing process and health care of clients throughout their lifespan. In addition to their clinical rotations, students also have the opportunity to practice their skills in the clinical skills lab. Clinical skills competency will be assessed at the completion of Pharmacology and the completion of each level.

    Also covered in this program will be the ethical and legal responsibilities of the practical nurse as they relate to the health care facility, the client, and coworkers. Professionalism and general communication skills, both of which are considered essential to any health care professional, are also taught and addressed throughout the entire program.
